We Lost a Foot!

We had another interesting situation at the house. My wife and builder had went to look earlier in the week at the kids bathroom. This room was designed to be 11ft, 4 inches long - there would be a toilet and 5ft tub, then a separating door, and then a 6ft vanity. We had decided we wanted to reverse things, and have a 6ft tub and 5ft vanity - so, this should be a simple moving of the separator wall and door. Well, when they looked, they realized the framed room is only 10ft, 6inches long - we lost 8 or 9 inches!

Now, the GC claims this was due to incorrect measurements by the architect; the architect, when I asked, said this should have been verified by the builder as they framed. Who is right? I don't know.

I spoke with architect on Thursday, and she agreed to sketch out a change which would get us 12 feet in the bathroom - more than what was originally planned. (We would get the space by taking some space from the walk-in closet in master bedroom, which is fine with me).

I went on Friday and met with GC at the house, and we walked through this change - at first, he said this was crazy - there would just be too much re-framing. After we spoke, he said that hw would get this done - he would talk to architect and work out who would pay, but that he would get us what we wanted for that bathroom. At no charge to us. So, as of Friday, I was very happy - if we stick with that solution, I think that works great for us. But I am a bit concerned that the issue is not over. Will know soon, I suppose.
