The House is Dead, Long Live the House!

Yes, the demolition is just about done! The entire roof and second floor of the house are now off, and the garage was completely destroyed. We went by last night, and it was pretty neat to look at. There is still some final demolition and cleanup the builder needs to do, but then we are on to the framing. And, the foundation work has all been approved by the town. And, the weather for the next few days looks to be great. So, we should see alot of action.

Of course, with things seemingly going this well, I am waiting for something unexpected to happen!

We went by house and picked up a few final items we had left in the garage - which were now in the front yard, since there is no garage.

Next Step - Framing!

Well, my wife met with the GC this morning, to go over a few issues, but mainly to allow him to collect the next check. Things are going well - both according to the GC and from what we can visually see. The foundation is now completely done, and the town inspected and approved it. The next step is the framing, although I am not 100% certain what that means in detail. I believe they will next take off the roof and existing second floor, knock out the back walls of the house, frame the new first floor walls, and then frame the upstairs and roof. The GC said the lumber should be arriving today and tomorrow (half each day) and then the framers should be there this week.

He did say one thing that makes me nervous, which is that there was a problem with the framers he uses - they come down from Newark and said their truck was stolen, or their tools were stolen, or something. He told my wife don't worry - that this will not affect things. But, I want to keep a close eye on things this week especially to make sure we keep moving forward.

Also, this week, the GC asked to make some decisions pretty soon on basic plumbing stuff - the faucetts for the kitchen sinks and all bathrooms, plus the tub and/or shower stall for master bath. We started looking on Internet - a lot of choices - more faucetts than I ever imagined!
